Not in The News, though appearing in the nearby Salisbury Post, in the home of Cheerwine, the putative favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1960, Senator John F. Kennedy, and his wife Jacqueline would have their first child this date, the day before Thanksgiving. (You are already aware of the fact that it would have been six days after "Franksgiving", had not President Roosevelt, in May, 1941, relented and proclaimed again the fourth Thursday in November the Pilgrims' holiday rather than his third Thursday, proclaimed in 1939 for the sake of extending the Christmas shopping season for merchants to help stem the tide of the "second depression" of 1938, ultimately conquered by the unfortunately necessitous stimulus of war production, a machine, once in gear, needing to be fed on cue like Pavlov's dog, to refuse the line of the warlords of Japan, Italy, and Germany. Don't ever make the historical mistake, however, of blaming FDR or President Wilson for the problem. If any blame of American interests is warranted, it resides with that part of big business which unconscionably aligned with the German war machine, providing the missing critical parts, as ball bearings, and with the isolationists who determined after World War I that the U.S. could withdraw into the insularity provided by its oceans on either side and friendly neighbors to the north and south, without reckoning with the inevitable advancements in the airplane and internal combustion engines in the garage, as well with microfilm, eventually reducing those oceans to mere ponds in the backyard to be forded by technological will to power, a will unfortunately inherited and split between Russia and the U.S. at the conclusion of World War II, the sequel to the "war to end all wars", with the only sequel to that last one being a built-in final curtain for mankind in which there will no longer be need for Christmas shopping seasons, extended or not.)
And, to show that the world of sports, both football and basketball, knows no true beginning, end or middle, only some form of continuity through time, even if sometimes thrown for a loss, substantial or minor, before a gain will occur, here is the sports page of this date.
